Michael Joseph Jackson (Gary, 29 août 1958 – Los Angeles, 25 juin 2009 (à 50 ans)), est un chanteur, danseur-chorégraphe, auteur-compositeur-interprète.Septième d'une famille de neuf enfants, il commença sa carrière professionnelle à l'âge de onze ans au sein des Jackson fives.

Surnommé par la suite « The King of Pop », il sortit six albums studio figurant parmi les plus vendus au monde : Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), HIStory (1995) et Invincible (2001).

Au début des années 1980, Michael Jackson devint une figure majeure de la musique pop et l'une des plus célèbres du XXe siècle. Les courts-métrages comme Beat It, Billie Jean ou Thriller donnèrent un nouvel élan aux vidéo-clips musicaux. Au cours de ses concerts, vidéos et apparitions publiques, il popularisa largement de nombreux pas de danse, dont le Moonwalk, qui devint sa signature. Son style vocal et musical a influencé beaucoup d'autres artistes de hip-hop, pop et R'n'B.

Au cours de sa carrière, Michael Jackson battit nombre de records de l'industrie du disque. Les estimations du total de ses ventes sont estimées à plus de 750 millions, ce qui le classe parmi les plus gros vendeurs d'albums de tous les temps. Thriller, dont les estimations des ventes varient entre 65 et 118 millions, est quant à lui l'album le plus vendu de l'histoire de la musiqu]. Il remporta plus de prix que n'importe quel autre artiste et fut élu Artiste du Millénaire aux World Music Awards en 2000.

Lancé et managé par leur père Joe Jackson, le groupe de départ (The Jackson Brothers) est composé de ses trois fils aînés Sigmund Esco surnommé Jackie (né le 4 mai 1951), Toriano Adaryll surnommé Tito (né le 15 octobre 1953), le leader du groupe Jermaine (né le 11 décembre 1954) ainsi que deux musiciens : Johnny Jackson (aucun lien familial) et Ronnie Rancifer. En 1965, alors que s'ajoutent les cadets Marlon (né le 12 mars 1957) et Michael (né le 29 août 1958 - mort le 25 juin 2009), le groupe opte désormais pour le nom des Jackson Five. Le plus jeune membre du groupe, Michael, qui a alors tout juste 6 ans, s'avère rapidement le plus charismatique et le plus doué, c'est pour cela qu'il sera mis en avant et assurera la majorité des solos.
